香水(パルファン)の付け方
Floria Today(フロリダトゥデイ)に掲載された前フレグランス・ファンデーション会長Annette Greenさんが語るパルファンの付け方を紹介します。
日本では「アメリカ・フレグランス協会」と訳されることが多いフレグランス・ファンデーション(Fragrance Foundation)は香水業界ではとても権威ある団体。
香水の普及を目指して販売員のためのセールス教育やその認定書(Certificate)の発行など行っているNPOです。
フレグランス・ファンデーションが開催するFiFi Awards(フィフィ賞)は世界の香水マーケットに影響を及ぼすアワードとして有名ですね。Annette GreenさんはFiFi賞を創案された方です。

「香水は点で付けてください」
「パルファンは、脈拍があるポイントの上に小さな点で付けてください。手首の内側、耳の後ろ、のどの付け根、胸、膝の後ろ、足首の内側など。時間が経って香りが弱まってきたら同じ香りのコロンやオードパルファンで補強してください」
空中にスプレーしてそこをくぐるという付け方はどうですか？

まず、香水の使い方に慣れている欧米人にはこのような話は必要ないし、記事にもならないと思っていましたが香水の正しい使い方を指南することがあるんですね。日本でいえば、箸の使い方が、一般新聞で改めて記事になるようなものでしょうか？
次に、パルファンを付けた場合、時間が経過して香りが弱くなったらコロンやオードパルファンで補強せよという内容にはやや驚きです。
香水ファンの中には、パルファン、オードパルファン、シャワージェルなど同じ香りをシリーズで買ってレイヤーで装おうというお洒落な方もおられますが、同じ香りをパルファンとコロンやオードパルファンなどシリーズで買うのは、如何せん、コストが・・・庶民的な私にはややハードルが高いのですが、みなさんは、いかがでしょうか？
最後に、空中スプレー方式は日本では比較的多い付け方ですが、ムダとあっさり一刀両断でした。
全体的にコロンやオードパルファンよりもパルファンを使ってくださいね〜というニュアンスを感じさせなくもないご意見でした。

There is a right way to wear scents, said Annette Green, president emeritus of the Fragrance Foundation in New York City.
First, know what you're applying.
Perfume has the least amount of alcohol and is the strongest and longest-lasting scent. Eau de parfum (it used to be called eau de toilette) is lighter. Cologne has the most alcohol and is the lightest scent and lasts the least amount of time.
A fragrance will smell differently on different individuals because of genes, diet, medicine and skin type.
"You should put it on nude, because fragrance rises," Green said.
Use the tiniest dot of perfume on pulse points -- inside the wrist, in back of the ear, at the base of the throat, at the bosom, behind the knees and inside the ankles.Hours later, when the scent begins to wane, refresh it using eau de parfum or cologne from the same scent as the perfume you already used.
What about the idea of spraying the fragrance into the air in front of you and then walking into the spray?
"I think it's a waste of money," Green said.
